The importance of having a will at any age cannot be underestimated. If you own any assets, large or small, a will gives you peace of mind. If the death of your loved one is unexpected the death may be referred to the Coroner for investigation. This can be a difficult and confusing time which is challenging to navigate and delays often occur. When a death is unexpected the death may be referred to the Coroner to investigate - this can be done on behalf of the Coroner by police. An unexpected death may be one that is unnatural, violent or caused by accident or injury, or following a medical procedure, or when the person was in care or custody. You may be asked questions about the person or the circumstances surrounding the death and the person is likely to be transported to the coronial services building in Southbank. The Coroner must seek to establish, if possible, the identity of the deceased, the cause of the death and the circumstances surrounding the death. This investigation may take some time and will endure long after the funeral is held and in some cases result in a public Inquest being held. We can assist you to navigate this situation.
